The Creative Health Campaigns in Lebanon emerged from relief work in summer 2006, when we succeeded in integrating health and awareness into the relief work Turning Relief Into Self Reliance
May Haddad MD.MPH directed the Campaigns that were supported by ANERA and partners (ARCPA, the Janana network, Women Humanitarian Organization, Amel International etc.) 2006-2011. The Campaigns grew organically and were implemented under relatively low budgets (and sometimes none). The topics included IYCFP, No junk foods, Home-based ORS, Protecting children from dangers of smoking, Smart use of medicines , nutritional iron deficiency anemia, integrating protective policies into our community centers and work etc.

Several aspects of the Campaigns are still sustained to date and selected aspects have been integrated into the relief work with Syrian refugees in Lebanon.

The Creative Health Campaign is an initiative that grew out of ANERA’s emergency response work with mothers and children during the recent conflict. In consultation with its Community Health Advisor, Dr. May Haddad (MD, MPH), ANERA is currently undertaking a set of new activities aimed at raising awareness among mothers in the proper care and nutrition for their young children. These activities, including community health festivals, training of community health workers, and production of related materials are being undertaken in cooperation with multiple partners NGOs, including all 6 who were involved in distribution of kits and awareness rising during and after the war.
